Introduction

Verbs are words that give the sentence an action. Verbs in Laitan always end in -ma. Verbs are conjugated by person and tense, as well as a whole host of other things, this is the nature of agglutinative languages like Laitan. Due to the large amount of information on this page, explanations are limited and sometimes non-existant.

Present Tense

Formed by removing the -ma ending, then adding a suffix based on grammatical person.

Singular First Person
Suffix : +n

näätämä (to show) > näätän (I show)
haalama (to help) > haalan (I help)

Singular Second Person
Suffix : +sa

näätämä (to show) > näätäsä (You show)
haalama (to help) > haalasa (You help)

Singular Third Person
Suffix : +hta

näätämä (to show) > näätähtä (He/She/It shows)
haalama (to help) > haalahta (He/She/It helps)

Plural First Person
Suffix : +me

Past Tense

Formed by removing the -ma ending, then adding a suffix based on grammatical person.

näätämä (to show) > näätäkin (I showed)
haalama (to help) > haalakisa (You helped)
lukkima (to read) > lukkikahta (He/She/It read)
kiidama (to dry) > kiidakime (We dried)
pülemä (to burn) > pülekite (Yous burned)
jäämä (to freeze) > jääkiinä (They froze)

Perfect Tense

Formed by removing the -ma ending, then adding the participle suffix based on grammatical person. With the stem of 'to be', ale placed in front.

näätämä (to show) > ale näätänen (I have shown)
haalama (to help) > ale haalanesa (You have helped)
lukkima (to read) > ale lukkinahta (He/She/It has read)
kiidama (to dry) > ale kiidaneme (We have dried)
pülemä (to burn) > ale pülenete (Yous have burned)
jäämä (to freeze) > ale jääniinä (They have frozen)

Pluperfect Tense

Formed by removing the -ma ending, then adding the participle suffix based on grammatical person. With the stem of 'to be', ale placed in front and conjugated into past tense. Note that the stem of ale is e-.

näätämä (to show) > ekin näätänen (I had shown)
haalama (to help) > ekisa haalanesa (You had helped)
lukkima (to read) > ekahta lukkinahta (He/She/It had read)
kiidama (to dry) > ekime kiidaneme (We had dried)
pülemä (to burn) > ekite pülenete (Yous had burned)
jäämä (to freeze) > ekiina jääniinä (They had frozen)

Negation

Formed by removing the -ma ending, then placing the conjugated negative particle in front. Any more conjugations move to the particle, je instead of the verb.

näätämä (to show) > jen näätä (I don't show)
haalama (to help) > jesa haala (You don't help)
lukkima (to read) > jahta lukki (He/She/It doesn't read)
kiidama (to dry) > jeme kiida (We don't dry)
pülemä (to burn) > jete püle (Yous don't burn)
jäämä (to freeze) > iina jää (They don't freeze)

Past Negative of say, Lukkima (to read), in the singular third person would be: jekahta lukki
